When do the rhododendrons bloom?
Spring is the main flower season, with April and May generally the strongest months for a broad display. Different varieties bloom at different times, so there is no single date when everything is at its peak.
The city's garden brochure explains the collection and its seasonal bloom pattern. Treat it as a botanical guide; use the current park page for operating information and reservations.
You can also enjoy Hendricks outside flower season. A fall or winter visit is more about the woodland setting, plant forms, and a quieter walk. Check the forecast and dress for wet paths rather than expecting a spring garden scene year-round.
Garden paths and forest trails
Hendricks is Eugene's oldest city park and covers roughly 80 acres. Its hillside setting is part of its appeal, but it also matters when selecting a walk.
Some garden paths are compacted gravel, and routes vary in grade. Forest trails can include roots, mud, and uneven surfaces. If your group needs a gentle route or has specific mobility requirements, check the park map and ask the city about the exact entrance and path you plan to use.
For a visit with children, choose a manageable loop and allow time to look at plants along the way. Keep play in areas where it is permitted, and leave garden beds and planted slopes undisturbed.

Dogs, picnics, and group visits
Pets are not permitted in the rhododendron garden. Leashed dogs can use allowed forest and picnic areas, so check the map before setting out if your visit includes a dog.
The garden also has restrictions on sports, games, and organized events. For a gathering, review the city's information about designated picnic spaces and the Francis M. Wilkins Shelter. A public garden visit does not provide permission to hold an event there.
Use designated parking and public paths. If you are meeting others, agree on an entrance in advance; a general map pin for a hillside park may send people to different starting points.
