Springfield is not a cheaper Eugene zip. It is a different city: Springfield School District 19, its own downtown, and a brand some relocators still underestimate. 97477 and 97478 do not shop as one filter. Gateway and Highway 126 traffic are real at the hour you will actually drive. If you need South Eugene High, Sheldon, or a campus walk, start in Eugene. A livability ranking will not fix the district.
Why people still choose Springfield — and stay
More house, flatter lots, newer construction, and a commute that is 10–15 minutes to Eugene in clean traffic. PeaceHealth Sacred Heart at RiverBend sits on this side of the river. Families who want Thurston and a yard without a south-hills tax land here on purpose. The people who stay picked 97477 or 97478 on purpose, not the ones who typed “Eugene homes” and accepted the first cheaper pin.
