Walking the orchard and connecting paths
Decide how long you want to be out before choosing a route. A shorter visit can focus on the park's paths and orchard surroundings. For a longer paved outing, look at the Middle Fork Path connection.
Willamalane's Middle Fork Path guide describes a four-mile route between Dorris Ranch and Clearwater Park. That is the length between the endpoints, not a four-mile out-and-back walk. Traveling the full path and returning the same way is approximately eight miles, before any extra walking inside either park.
You can also turn around earlier. Use the current map to choose a distance that fits your time and mobility needs. If a continuous paved surface is important, plan that route specifically rather than assuming every orchard path has the same surface.
Why the orchard looks different over time
Filberts are hazelnuts, and the orchard is part of the park's working landscape. Willamalane has been replacing trees affected by Eastern Filbert Blight with resistant varieties. Its orchard-restoration information explains the changes and why young trees need room to establish.
As a result, older photographs may show mature rows that look different today. Follow signs around work areas and give new plantings space. Public access to the park should not be treated as permission to pick nuts or enter a closed orchard area; ask the district about any current harvest arrangements.
Visiting the historical village
The historical village includes interpretive replica structures. Willamalane says it is accessible during regular park hours except when the space is rented.
The district also states that its Living History program ended in spring 2025. A visit to the village and participation in a scheduled program are therefore different plans. Check current event information directly rather than relying on an older description of school tours or demonstrations.
Dogs, bicycles, and sharing the paths

Cyclists should choose a route permitted for their type of bicycle and follow posted instructions. The district has specific rules for electric-assisted bikes, so check the current guidance if that applies to your visit.
Weddings, gatherings, and photography
Dorris Ranch has event-rental options. If you are planning a wedding or organized gathering, use Willamalane's rental resources to confirm availability, fees, permitted activities, and arrangements for guests.

It is in Springfield, south of downtown. It is not in the Thurston neighborhood.
Do I have to walk the entire Middle Fork Path?+
No. You can choose a shorter route or turn around partway. The full connection between Dorris Ranch and Clearwater Park is four miles each way.
Can I bring a dog?+
Follow Willamalane's leash rules and current site notices. Dorris Ranch should not be used as an off-leash dog park.
Can I pick hazelnuts?+
Ask Willamalane about current harvesting rules. The presence of a public trail through a working orchard does not by itself establish picking permission.
Are Living History tours still offered by Willamalane?+
