Hayward Hall: a visit beyond meet day

Hayward Hall is an interactive exhibit space at the base of the stadium tower. It covers the university's running history through athlete stories, memorabilia, video, and displays about coaches and innovation in the sport.

A historic venue with a modern stadium

The original Hayward Field opened for football in 1919 and began hosting track and field in 1921. The university completed the present stadium renovation in spring 2020.

The university's venue facts list 12,650 permanent seats, with expansion possible for larger championships. That helps explain why seating maps can look different from one event to another.

The project was funded by gifts from Penny and Phil Knight and more than 50 other donors. Today, the building combines a major competition venue with training and university facilities, which is why public access depends on the space and the occasion.

For a busy meet, allow time between arriving in the area and reaching your seat. If you are walking from a hotel or another campus stop, map the complete route and consider the trip back after the session.
