An announced weekend does not tell you which events will take place in each session. Before choosing travel times or seats, check the current meet schedule. The 2026 results and timetable are useful historical records, but they are not the 2027 program.
What makes the meet distinctive
The Prefontaine Classic is named for Steve Prefontaine, the Oregon distance runner whose connection to Eugene remains an important part of the city's track history. The first meet under the Prefontaine name took place in 1975, following earlier Hayward Restoration Meets.
The event became a founding member of the Diamond League in 2010. Its official history includes the development of the meet and notable performances over the years.
You do not need to follow the sport closely to enjoy attending. Look through the event list beforehand and choose a few races or field competitions to follow. Keep the session timetable handy so you know what is happening around the stadium as well as on the track in front of you.
Choosing tickets and seats
Use the official ticket page to reach the organizer's current sales channel. Read the ticket description carefully: confirm which day or session it covers and whether any additional activities require separate registration.
Your seating choice can depend on the events you most want to watch, how long you plan to stay, and accessibility needs. Review the current seating information rather than assuming every section offers the same view of every field event.
If you need accessible seating, companion arrangements, or help with a ticket account, contact the ticket office using the details on the official page. Resolve those questions before booking nonrefundable travel around a particular seat or session.
Getting to Hayward Field
Hayward Field is on the University of Oregon campus. Plan your route to the entry point shown in the meet's spectator information, then decide whether to walk, use transit, arrange a ride, or drive.
For drivers, check event parking guidance and allow time to walk from the parking area. A nearby street or campus lot may have restrictions that are not obvious from a general map. For transit or a pickup afterward, check service times against the end of your session.
Review the official spectator information for the upcoming meet's entry, bag, and other stadium policies. If that page still shows a previous year's instructions, wait for the new version or ask the organizer before relying on a specific rule.
Where to stay and what to do between sessions
Compare lodging by the actual trip to Hayward, including the evening return. Staying close enough to walk can simplify the day, while a downtown or Springfield stay may fit other plans. Confirm the route from the property you book rather than relying on a broad neighborhood label.
