Cottage Grove has six covered bridges in and around town: Centennial, Chambers Railroad, Mosby Creek, Stewart, Dorena, and Currin. They make an enjoyable outing from Eugene, whether you want a couple of short stops or a longer drive through the surrounding countryside.

Start with the in-town bridges, then decide how much time you want to spend east of Cottage Grove. The full group covers more ground than a downtown walk, and current closures affect which bridges you can enter.

Current access: check before you go

As of October 4, 2026, Currin and Stewart covered bridges remain closed to pedestrians. Lane County's September 29 construction notice describes stabilization work and possible lane restrictions on nearby Layng and Garoutte roads through December 31, 2026.

Treat that as a construction schedule, not a reopening announcement. Stay outside barriers and work areas. For Dorena, the regional visitor bureau's current bridge entry identifies pedestrian-only access as of April 2026.

The nearby Swinging Bridge is a separate pedestrian and bicycle crossing. It is not one of the six covered bridges in this list.

Start with Centennial and Chambers

Centennial is a natural first stop when you are exploring downtown. Its construction used timbers from earlier bridges, giving the commemorative structure a connection to the area's older covered-bridge history.

Chambers adds a different part of that story: rail transportation. The Cottage Grove visitor guide identifies it as the last remaining covered railroad bridge west of the Mississippi and records its 2011 restoration.

For a shorter outing, visit these two and leave time for a meal or a walk downtown. You do not need to see all six in one day to enjoy the town.

Extend the visit toward Dorena Lake

Mosby Creek, Stewart, Dorena, and Currin are outside the downtown cluster. Use an established route map to organize those stops rather than navigating to each name independently.

Mosby Creek Bridge remains part of the road network. Park only where permitted, keep clear of vehicles, and take photographs from a suitable place off the traveled roadway.

Dorena offers a stop along the Row River near the lake. Allow time to get out and look at the structure, while following the current access signs. If Currin or Stewart is on your route, use the county's closure information to decide whether to pass through the area or choose another stop.

Driving and cycling are different itineraries

A driving tour gives you flexibility to shorten the outing, add a picnic, or spend more time at a favorite bridge. Start with the city's covered-bridge overview for orientation, then apply current closure notices to your plan.

The Covered Bridges Scenic Bikeway is a separate 36-mile cycling route. It includes off-street trail and road riding, so do not assume the entire route is a short, traffic-free path.

For a smaller cycling or walking outing, choose a suitable section of the Row River Trail and plan your turnaround point. Review the route, weather, and access notices before committing to the full loop.
